Chasetown FC Reserves edged closer to re-claiming their first division crown, as they remained unbeaten in all competitions with a draw against a hungry Rugby Town at Butlin Road.

Tom Lowe headed home the equaliser early in the second period after Callum O’Sullivan had given Rugby the first half lead.

A well organised Town outfit had their heart set on destroying the visitors’ amazing run. Chasetown were without regular strikers Karl Edwards and Jordan Archer who were called up for first team duty, meaning call-ups for Academy duo Matthew Hardiman and Connor Leek.

The first chance saw Rugby’s Tom Glasscoe just miss the target, while both Samson Alalade and Tom Brown fired in shots for the visitors.

The hosts went ahead after 39 minutes when right back Melanius Mullarkey ran the ball down the wing and found Tom Rawlings who centred for O’Sullivan to volley home from close range.

It was Alalade who created the Scholars equaliser seven minutes into the second half. He harassed, and then won possession from Nick Whittam, skipped passed another defender and somehow swung in a delivery when the ball seemed to be running beyond the touchline. Lowe was lurking in the area and sprang up to header into the top corner.

Chasetown went in search of the winner and saw Matthew Wood’s lob drift just over.

Rugby were saved by the woodwork on two occasions from a Jonathan Gould corner and a neat Chad Degville chip.

The hosts had a chance when Rawlings found himself one on one with Mark Wiggins who hit the deck and instinctivly thrust out a leg, preventing what looked like a certain goal.

Wittam then bulleted a header over the bar from a Dom Alleyne corner and Adam Micginly was unlucky to see his drive from 25 yards curl around the outside of the post.

Next up tomorrow (March 13), the Reserves travel to Stafford to take on Brocton where three points will secure the title.

**Chasetown**: Wiggins (Capt), James, Sowe, Wood, Hulin, J Aiton, Degville, Brown, Lowe (Davies), Alalade (Leek), Gould.
