Pathfinder came away with all three points from Warstones after performing a real smash and grab raid.

Warstone, who have been widely tipped as title challengers this season, started with all guns blazing and produced wave after wave off attacks in an opening 20 minute spell which saw the visitors defending desperately at times.

Keeper Steven Prince – making his Pathfinder debut between the sticks – was in fine form, making a couple of good saves from long range efforts.

With the game 25 minutes old, Shenstone were awarded a free-kick on the half-way line. A long ball into the box saw another debutant, Neill Sinclair, nod the ball down for Rich Caddy to prod home from six yards out to give his side the lead against the run of play.

Warstone came back strongly and it was no surprise when they equalised, although Pathfinder were disappointed at the manner in which they conceded. The goal came when a speculative free-kick into the box was allowed to travel to the back post where a striker stooped low to head home, giving keeper Prince no chance.

With the scores level at the break, Shenstone came out battling in the second half, but it was Warstone who were playing lots of attractive football without breaking down the visiting back line which was superbly marshalled by debutant Sinclair alongside Finkle.

With 20 minutes to go a piece of individual brilliance gave Pathfinder the lead. A free-kick was awarded in the centre circle and with the Warstone keeper organising his defence on the edge of his box an ever alert Adam Wall strode up and struck the ball fully 50 yards over the scrambling keeper’s head to score a goal of the season contender.

The hosts were stunned and came back at Shenstone with wave after wave of attack in the last 20 minutes, but Pathfinder’s defence and midfield worked tirelessly to keep them out.

With minutes remaining an almighty scramble in the box saw three visiting defenders throwing themselves in front of goalbound efforts before keeper Prince tipped a rasping drive onto the bar which ultimately secured a superb three points.

Shenstone’s next fixture sees them travel to Wolves Casuals on Saturday (August 13) to take on Trysull, kick-off 3pm.
