# More strikes planned at local schools despite talks between education trust and union

MORE strikes are planned at local schools as part of an ongoing dispute about planned redundancies.

There had been hopes of a breakthrough after talks between the National Education Union (NEU) and the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP).

But the education trust said it was “deeply regrettable” that a proposal following those dicussions had been rejected.

In a statement, the ALTP said:

> “Following a constructive discussion with the NEU earlier this week, we submitted a proposal which put forward substantive concessions in an attempt to resolve several concerns.

> “However, the NEU has rejected this offer and scheduled further strikes. This is, of course, incredibly disappointing as it means many children and young people will again not be able to attend school, which is deeply regrettable.

> “Arrangements have been made to ensure pupils not able to go to school can continue their education, including through high-quality remote learning.”

Additional strikes are now set to take place from 2nd to 5th February and from 9th to 13th February. Previously announced walkouts will also continue from 26th to 29th January.

Chris Denson, national executive member of the NEU, said:

> “Members are really concerned for the students that they teach. Any cuts should come from the massive central office spend, not from teachers and support staff who do so much for the children that they support day in, day out.

> “They are deeply concerned about the potential impact on support for children, for SEND support, for the impact on class sizes, not to mention the loss of jobs for members and their colleagues.”
