# Mother from Tamworth fined over son's failure to attend school

A TAMWORTH woman has been fined for failing to ensure her child attended school.

The parent, who has not been named in order to protect the identity of the pupils involved, appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre yesterday (5th October).

It came after her son's attendance record fell to just 52.5% and he failed to go to school regularly between February and April this year.

A family funeral, illness and anxiety were among the reasons given for his absences.

The mum-of-five told magistrates:

> "I lost my mum in January and I have two special needs children. In the mornings it has been hard to get them into school.

> "I haven’t got childcare. My mum was the one who looked after the children."

Magistrates fined her £120\. She was also ordered to pay a £48 surcharge and £125 costs.
