# MP’s delight after council agrees to think again on street advertising

Lichfield’s MP says he is “delighted” that Lichfield District Council has agreed to re-examine the way it approves street advertising in the city centre.

A giant mobile screen had caused controversy after it appeared on Market Street at the weekend.

But the local authority [has since admitted it was not appropriate](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2015/05/18/council-admits-giant-ad-screen-was-not-appropriate/) to give a permit for the screen, which was advertising the city’s new Poundworld store – a move which has been welcomed by MP Michael Fabricant.

“I am delighted that Lichfield District Council agrees that the positioning of the vehicle and its naff hoarding was inappropriate outside the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum.

“Frankly, I think it is inappropriate anywhere in the historic centre of Lichfield.

“Not only did it look awful, it was giving off diesel fumes and the generator made noise too.

“I hope the council will now think very carefully before allowing permits to be issued for this sort of promotion again.”
