# New apprentices start work at Lichfield District Council

A new group of apprentices has started work at Lichfield District Council.

The eight-strong cohort have taken up riles in areas such as marketing and communications, customer services and business administration.

The scheme provides the opportunity to learn through mentoring from experienced staff as well as the chance to study for a work-based qualification while earning a salary.

The apprenticeships last for a minimum of one year and are open people aged 16 or over who are not in full time education.

Stephanie Warwick, who will work in customer services, said:

> “I am 41 and have more than 25 years of working life left. This apprenticeship is an opportunity for me to get something out of it.

> “I have worked in a customer services environment before and have joined the council during a very busy period which for me is the best way to learn.

> “I think it is great that someone of my age gets an opportunity to gain a qualification and work experience.  
>  
> “I would like to work at Lichfield District Council afterwards – it is a great organisation.”

Harry Dean, 19, added:

> “As a young person from Lichfield who wanted to get into the digital marketing industry, I felt the only option that I had was to go to university and obtain a degree to start my career.

> “However, the apprenticeships that the council is offering has given me a great opportunity to get myself a qualification and some experience.

> “So far I am enjoying my time and learning about how the council uses marketing and communications to interact with the residents and stakeholders.”

Cllr Doug Pullen, leader of Lichfield District Council, said:

> “I’m delighted that we are investing in these new apprenticeships right across the council.
