# New figures reveal increase in number of potholes being fixed across Staffordshire

NEW figures have revealed more potholes have been fixed across Staffordshire over the past 12 months than in any of the last four years.

A total of 37,000 were filled in 2024-25, with Staffordshire County Council saying extra crews and new equipment had helped tackle defects.

AI technology has also been used to help highways crews assess the state of roads.

Cllr Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said:

> “I welcome the transparency that this new reporting brings. It shows how in Staffordshire we have a good grasp of what the problems are – and crews are getting on with the job of fixing as many defects as they can.

> “Even so, there are always improvements that can be made and I will be looking into our highways operation to ensure we are making the most of our assets to deliver real improvements for local people.

> “Residents have told me time and again that the condition of their local roads is one of their top priorities. It’s our top priority too.

> “However, the fact remains that highways in Staffordshire is underfunded – we are looking into ways we can make the money we do get work as hard as possible, but I will also be looking towards the Government to ensure Staffordshire’s roads are properly funded.”
