Lifestyle experts offer free weight management support

People struggling with their weight will have the opportunity to join a new healthy living group being launched near Lichfield. at Mill Lane Link, Fazeley in January 2012.

The free sessions, aimed at anyone aged 16 years and over who want support to lead a healthier lifestyle and loose weight, start on January 17, 2012, and will meet every other Tuesday from 10am to 12 noon at Mill Lane Link in Fazeley.

Jo Southan, Senior Lifestyle Advisor for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust, said: “This group is particularly for people living in the Fazeley and Mile Oak area who are overweight and need support to lead a healthier life.

“At each session, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, the group will discuss how to take control of their diet. We will learn more about portion sizes, food labelling and how sugars, fats, fad diets and convenience food affect us.

“We will also look at the impact of physical activity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Even making small changes in our busy lives brings big benefits. Looking good and feeling better, having more energy and reduced stress levels all help to put us back in control of our lives – as well as helping us to live longer.”

The group is provided by Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust’s Lifestyle Service Team, and is supported by Lichfield District Council.

Councillor Colin Greatorex, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for organisational development and community, said: “We’re delighted this group is launching at Mill Lane Link in the new year, as I’m sure it will give its members the boost they need to create a healthy and happy lifestyle.

“It is also good to see the wider use of our community facilities at Mill Lane.”

Jo added: “We all know that these life changes seem difficult to make, but they don’t have to be, which is why we are offering this wide range of support, free of charge.”
