# New on-demand minibus service to connect people with retail areas in Lichfield and Burntwood

A NEW on-demand transport service is aiming to connect people across the district with Lichfield city centre and Burntwood town centre.

The LinkUp pilot scheme has been launched by Lichfield District Council in partnership with WeMove.

It will see people able to use an app or call a contact centre to request a journey from local villages via a minibus.

The initiative works like a taxi, but residents will share their journey with others.

Each journey costs £3 and is free for children under 11 and concession bus pass holders, with passengers picked up from their nearest “virtual bus stop”.

Cllr Janice Silvester-Hall, cabinet member for the visitor economy, ecology and climate change, said:

> “We’re really excited to offer this brand new, great value transport service to villagers in Lichfield district.

> “It’s flexible, easy to use and could prove to be the future of rural transport, enabling residents who do not currently have public transport to access our high streets by booking rides on demand for shopping, eating out or meeting friends.

> “If the trial works well, we hope to extend and expand the service.”

LinkUp is being launched as a six-month trial and is being funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. 

Samuel Hunt, operations manager at WeMove, said:

Alternatively they can call 0808 134 6632 from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Fares can be paid in cash on board but journeys must be booked in advance.
