# New railings to be installed at Lichfield’s Beacon Park

Work will be getting underway this February to install new railings and a hedge along the Swan Road side of Beacon Park.

Following discussions with local groups and organisations, Lichfield District Council is replacing an old fence and hedge, which borders Museum Gardens along Swan Road, with a combination of a new yew hedge and railings.

It is hoped the new frontage will offer passers-by a glimpse into the gardens and will smarten up the boundary to the park.

The railings will be of a similar in design to those along Minster Pool and will be painted black before they are installed.

Councillor Val Richards said: “Museum Gardens is such a beautiful part of Beacon Park, with its formal planting, historic fountain and statues. While the balustrades along Bird Street offer a fitting impression to this grand park, we feel the current wooden fence and hedge along Swan Road do not do justice to their historic surroundings.

“This is why we are working to install new railings that will be more in-keeping with Lichfield’s historic parks.”

Work to remove the old fence and hedge will begin this February. The new railings will be installed and a yew hedge planted later in the spring.
