# New sensory garden opens in Burntwood

A new sensory garden has been created in Burntwood.

Based at the Old Mining College Centre on Queen Street, it has been created by MHA Communities to provide a quiet outdoor space.

The choices of fragrant plants were made to help with sensory stimulation for those living with dementia.

Caroline Bruno, scheme manager of MHA Communities, said:

> “We are thrilled that after all of the challenges Covid has thrown at us, this project is now starting.

> “It will be a great addition to the facilities we provide at the Old Mining College Centre and I thank Burntwood Town Council and all of the individual councillors at Lichfield District Council and Staffordshire County Council who provided grants from their community funds.”

The opening was celebrated by Burntwood’s Dementia Friendly Community Working Group – a partnership of residents and organisations across the town aiming to raise awareness of dementia.

Chair Cllr Di Evans, said:

> “This is such a lovely example of the excellent partnership working that is happening across the town, and particularly of how we can all work together on raising awareness of dementia. “
