Burntwood had plenty of players to take to Newcastle for their Merit Table game but not enough qualified to play in the front row so the scrums were uncontested from the start.

Once the sides got used to it a competitive game followed which the home side shaded 5-0.

The only score came after 20 minutes. Burntwood were attacking but a pass which could have led to a try for them was intercepted for a length of the field try in the opposite direction.

Apart from this setback, the sides were evenly matched with Craig Goodall, Gareth Wedge, Matt Bray and Jack Neal working well up front and Brett Taylor and Nick Peplow impressing in the backs.

Going into the last few minutes Burntwood had the chance to level the scores following a miss hit attempt at a clearance by the home side but the ball was fumbled when a try looked on.
