# Number of people using Lichfield Foodbank continuing to soar

The number of people using Lichfield Foodbank is 80% higher than last year, bosses have said.

With the cost of living crisis biting and energy prices continuing to rise, the demand for support services is expected to rise in the coming weeks and months.

But Lichfield Foodbank says it is already dealing with more people than ever before – with the equivalent of 62,000 meals handed out since 1st April.

A spokesperson said:

> “We’ve just broken a record we didn’t want to – our most food bank users ever in one week.

> “The number of food parcels we have distributed in Lichfield and the immediate surrounding villages, is still running at 80% more than the same period in 2021.

> “Other than at Christmas last year, last week we gave out more food parcels than we have done in any week in the last eight years.”

The increased demand has also seen an urgent plea for donations to help support those in need across the area.

Among the most needed items at present are tinned fruit, snack bars, crisps, crackers, Lon life fruit juice and tinned soup.
