A Lichfield school has celebrated its relocation with an official opening.

Rocklands Special School on Purcell Avenue has moved from its previous location and will now share a site with Charnwood Primary School after a £1.5million refurbishment scheme.

Headteacher Tony Dooley said:

> “The last year has been challenging for staff and pupils as we’ve moved to a new school and had to work around the construction. The result is a building which meets the special needs of our pupils and supports other pupils on the campus, and I am immensely proud of everyone involved, from staff to the pupils themselves.”

The school was officially opened by the Chairman of Staffordshire County Council, Erica Bayliss.

The site – which was once the infant section of Charnwood Primary School – now boasts seven teaching areas and a number of specialist teaching spaces including a sensory room, soft play room and an Art/Design and Technology room.

Cllr Bayliss said:

> “I am extremely pleased to have opened Rocklands Special School. It was fantastic to see the array of new facilities the school has, and to see how these are benefitting pupils.
>
> “Everyone has worked incredibly hard to ensure the transition for the pupils has been as smooth as possible, and it has been a wonderful opportunity to see how the new facilities are being used.”
