# Official ‘thrilled and delighted’ by success of Lichfield election count

The official in charge of ensuring Lichfield’s election count went off without a hitch admitted she was “thrilled and delighted” by the success of the evening.

Nina Dawes, Acting Returning Officer for the Lichfield constituency was joined by a team of 75 counters as they brought the declaration in some two hours ahead of schedule.

And while Conservative MP Michael Fabricant [celebrated his victory](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2010/05/07/conservative-candidate-roars-to-victory-in-lichfield-election/), Nina and her team were busy finishing off their jobs and ensuring the papers were all safely stored away.

She told The Lichfield Blog that the count had run smoothly:  

The speedy conclusion of the count pleased many of those who had expected to be in for a long night.

But despite the earlier than scheduled declaration shortly after 2pm, Nina explained why corners couldn’t be cut and that accuracy was the key:
