ORGANISERS have hailed an event staged in memory of a record-breaking Burntwood fundraiser.

The Stephen Sutton Ride out took place in May and has seen £14,133 generated for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

It is the second highest fundraising total since the event begain in 2013.

Stephen's mother Jane said:

> "The public have been incredibly generous with their donations, especially when you consider the challenges we’re all facing on our disposable income.
>
> "I must thank the members of the organising team – without the dedication, enthusiasm and support of our small team the SSRO could not be staged.”

Over 650 motorbikes assembled at Lichfield Rugby Club's car park ahead of their 27-mile journey through villages on the outskirts of Tamworth and Lichfield before ending at Burntwood Rugby Club.

Jane added:

> "The crowds along the route were larger than ever, which is heart-warming when you consider Stephen passed away 12 years ago.
>
> "I’d also like to thank Tracie Paul, community champion at Morrisons in Burntwood for providing the opportunity for us to promote the event outside the store’s main entrance."
>
> "Both Lichfield and Burntwood Rugby clubs need a mention too, along with the volunteer marshals from Lichfield Advanced Motorcyclists Group.
>
> "The event is only a success because of everyone who supports it, from local businesses, stall holders, marshals, participants, volunteers and spectators. I can’t thank them all enough.
>
> "The £14,133 raised this year brings the total given to Teenage Cancer Trust since the first Stephen Sutton Ride Out in 2013 to over £117,000 - a truly astonishing figure."

The 2027 Stephen Sutton Ride-Out is provisionally scheduled for 9th May.
