A NEW guide is aiming to help children starting a new school in September to stay safe.

The Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) is aiming to help reduce the risk youngsters take as they begin to travel more independently.

Staffordshire Commissioner Ben Adams, who is Chair of the SSRP, said:

> "It’s important that parents and carers talk to their children about road safety and their new journey to school, especially if they’re planning to travel on their own.
>
> "Starting a new school can be an exciting time but can also cause children to worry.
>
> "Practising their new route with them over the summer, talking to them about road safety and how they’re going to get to school can not only help ensure they travel safely, but can also help them feel calmer about their new school."

The SSRP has developed a guide for parents and carers on what to cover with children as they plan their new journey. For more details, visit www.staffssaferroads.co.uk.
