# Parking fines cancelled as firm investigates issues with ANPR system in Burntwood

The operator of a Burntwood car park is investigating after complaints from motorists who say they were fined despite not exceeding the time limit.

The Sankeys Corner car park had used an automatic number plate recognition system in order to ensure people didn’t stay for more than three hours.

But concerns were raised by Cllr Steve Norman after residents complained that they were fined despite not exceeding the time limit.

*Lichfield Live* [reported last month](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/cameras-removed-from-burntwood-car-park-after-complaints/) how the cameras had been removed.

But now the British Parking Association, the body which represents car park enforcement companies, has confirmed the system had been suspended.

In a letter to Cllr Norman, the association said:

> “Civil Enforcement Ltd \[the car park operator\] have confirmed that they would cancel/refund the parking charge notices.  
>  
> “Additionally, they have advised us that they would cease enforcement at the site, until they finish a thorough investigation.”

#### “I hope drivers will not take advantage of this temporary situation”

Cllr Norman, who represents the Chase Terrace ward, said he hoped drivers would not take advantage while the system was out of action:

> “I am grateful for the British Parking Association’s help in getting this injustice by their member, Civil Enforcement Ltd, resolved though it has been disappointing that they themselves did not properly respond to so many complaints from drivers.

> “If anyone else has had a ticket when they clearly did not park there for more than the three hours allowed then they should contact Civil Enforcement directly.

> “I hope drivers will not take advantage of this temporary situation for the sake of the shopkeepers and traders who need spaces for their customers.”
