# People asked to support reverse advent calendar initiative to ensure shelves remain stocked at Lichfield Foodbank

People in Lichfield are being invited to take part in a ‘[reverse advent calendar](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/content/files/lichfield-foodbank-org-uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/335/2021/11/2021-lichfield-foodbank-reverse-advent-calendar.pdf)‘ initiative to help support those in need locally.

Lichfield Foodbank has put together the calendar as a way for people to collect a food item every day to donate in order to ensure others don’t go hungry.

The foodstuffs will also ensure volunteers have a stock of items in the new year.

> “We are asking for donations as we prepare to support the many families in the city who are facing a challenging winter this year.”

The calendar features:

- 1st December – Long life milk
- 2nd December – Long life fruit juice
- 3rd December – Tinned peas
- 4th December – Tinned carrots
- 5th December – Tinned potatoes
- 6th December – Tinned custard
- 7th December – Tinned rice pudding
- 8th December – Tinned soup
- 9th December – Tinned tomatoes
- 10th December – Jar of pasta sauce
- 11th December – Tinned meat
- 12th December – Tinned tuna
- 13th December – Jam
- 14th December – Tinned fruit
- 15th December – Snack and breakfast bars
- 16th December – Chocolate or sweets
- 17th December – Pack of tea bags
- 18th December – Jar of coffee
- 19th December – Dry rice
- 20th December – Squash
- 21st December – Instant mash
- 22nd December – Cereal
- 23rd December – Tinned sweetcorn
- 24th December – Tinned spaghetti

Items can be dropped off at [the Lichfield Foodbank collection points](https://lichfield.foodbank.org.uk/locations/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).

The charity is also collecting items for festive dinner bags to help those in need enjoy a Christmas dinner.

A spokesperson said:

> “In addition to providing emergency food parcels at four distribution centres a week, Lichfield Foodbank also provides a festive dinner bag every year to ensure that nobody is forgotten on Christmas Day.

> “Each bag contains items generously donated by local people, as well as fresh veg and meat vouchers.

> “In the first year that the foodbank was open in 2014 we provided 100 bags. This year it is anticipated that 600 bags will be needed.”
