Views are being sought on the future of the region’s archives.

Staffordshire County Council is putting forward plans for the future of the service over the next decade.

They include improving the availability of digitised collections, reaching more users and ensure that buildings -including Lichfield Record Office – have the right environment for some of the historic documents on offer.

Cllr Ben Adams, Cabinet Member responsible for the Archives and Heritage Service at Staffordshire County Council said: “We are very proud of our history and heritage here in Staffordshire and have a fascinating archives collection going back over 1,000 years.

“This is an exciting time for our service, and as family history becomes even more popular we want to make sure we can preserve our collections and provide a modern service that allows many more people to enjoy the records.

“We want to continue developing our online service offering access to more digitised collections, and at the same time, taking the service out and involving our local communities.

“To do this we need to hear from people who have used our service and those who haven’t, so I would encourage people to get involved in the conversation.”

People can have their say on the proposals – which can be seen in full on Staffordshire County Council’s website – via a feedback board in Lichfield Record Office or online.
