PEOPLE heading out for a romantic meal on Valentine’s Day are being reminded to be allergy aware.

Staffordshire County Council’s Trading Standards team are working with local food businesses to ensure they comply with regulations.

Natasha’s Law, introduced in 2021, requires full labelling of foods and ingredients with any of the 14 major allergens emphasised. It means anyone eating in a restaurant or takeaway has the right to receive allergen information, either in written format or verbally.

The law also requires businesses to label all food known as pre-packed for direct sale.

Cllr Victoria Wilson, cabinet member for communities and culture at Staffordshire County Council, said:

> “Valentine’s Day is a special occasion and we want everyone to enjoy their meals without any health concerns.
>
> “It’s important that diners inform restaurant staff about any allergies they have and that restaurants and food outlets take all necessary precautions to prevent cross-contamination.
>
> “Our Trading Standards team are dedicated to supporting businesses in maintaining high standards of food safety and we always encourage them to review their allergen management practices and ensure their staff are well-trained in handling allergen information.”
