# Petition launched to erect memorial to former Lichfield resident

Bertha Frankham

An online campaign has been started to erect a memorial to a former Lichfield resident.

Bertha Frankham was a well-known character in the city prior to her death on Christmas Day in 1994.

Organiser Lee Jones is trying to enlist the support of local residents to have a memorial erected to her.

He said:

> “Every person I have asked for information about her, whether it be in the library or the Register office, has known who she is. Anyone over 25 and from Lichfield will know of Bertha, hence why a lot of people would like some sort of memorial for her.”

Nearly 300 people have signed up to a Facebook group in memory of Bertha and Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant has pledged to support the campaign if enough signatures are collected on [the online petition](http://www.petitiononline.co.uk/petition/petition-to-have-a-memorial-statue-of-the-legendary-bertha-the-dog-lady-erected-near-the-dimbles-shops/2572?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).
