THE organiser of a petition against plans which will see a battery energy storage site built in Hammerwich says the views of locals have been ignored.

Lichfield District Council’s planning committee gave the green light to the proposals for land off Lions Den earlier this week.

It came after more 100 local residents signed a petition against the scheme.

Janet Taylor, who launched the petition, said the “deep frustration” of those living in the area had been ignored.

> “This is not just a technical energy project, it’s a threat to one of the few remaining open landscapes.
>
> “The dismissal of the petition undermines local democracy and the principle of community consultation.”

She said locals were now urging Lichfield District Council to reconsider the application and look to an alternative brownfield site.

> “The proposal involves large-scale infrastructure, including cooling fans and transformers, which will impact local wildlife and the visual amenity.
>
> “Some residents have submitted formal complaints and are considering escalating their concerns further.”
