# Plan for school maintenance and improvement programme to be debated by county council’s cabinet

A PLAN for maintenance and improvements at local schools is set to be discussed at a meeting of Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet.

The Capital Programme for Schools 2026-27 will see proposals for upgraded facilities including refurbished playgrounds, updated toilet blocks and repaired roofs.

It will also include enhancements to make schools more sustainable by replacing inefficient heating systems with more environmentally friendly options and improving insulation.

Cllr Janet Higgins, cabinet member for education and SEND at Staffordshire County Council, said:

> “It is widely recognised that a school building is more than just a building – it is the foundation that supports teaching and learning and helps shape the future of our next generation.

> “A good environment can promote better attendance, concentration and help motivate both staff and pupils alike. That is why we are committed to keeping schools safe, warm and dry, with facilities that support pupils’ wellbeing. This includes redesigning toilet areas to help reduce bullying and ensure safer spaces for every child.

> “This year’s capital programme sets out our plans to support our education goals.”

The county council proposals for 2026-27 would see roof repairs and the replacement of modular buildings at King Edward VI School, while Chasetown Community School and Fulfen Primary will also see roof works carried out.

Elsewhere, Chase Terrace Primary School is set to benefit from toilet refurbishment

The Capital Programme for Schools will be discussed at the cabinet meeting on 15th April.
