A site earmarked for offices in Burntwood could be converted into five bedsits.

Planning permission is being sought for the unit on Queens Drive.

A statement supporting the application said: “The building has previously benefitted fro planning consent for alteration and extension to form offices.

“Works to implement that were commenced but not completed, to the extent that the building remains partially constructed.

“This application seeks to extend the building in line with the previously approved application and convert the building into five bedsits, each comprising an open plan living room with kitchenette and bed, plus a separate toilet and shower room.”

However, concerns have been raised by neighbouring businesses.

Steve Jones, managing director of Crown Highways, said the location was inappropriate for residential development.

In a letter objecting to the plans he said: “The location of these flats is slap bang in the middle of an industrial site.

“This location would not be suitable living conditions for any potential resident and access to Queens Drive is already complex with the constent delivery and collection from Travis Perkins, Crown Highways and Collis Timber Merchants.

“Parking and access is a constant issue and will be further compromised by the addition of five bedsits.”
