Drop-in events on November 10 will allow residents to see the proposals for St Mary’s in the Market Square.

The controversial move will see the facility switch from The Friary, which will then be redeveloped into residential property.

[A petition](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2016/04/26/campaigners-ready-to-hand-in-lichfield-library-petition-to-staffordshire-county-council/) fighting the plans [failed to halt the proposals](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2016/07/28/controversial-plan-to-move-lichfield-library-to-st-marys-in-the-market-square-is-approved/), but Cllr Gill Heath, libraries chief at Staffordshire County Council, insisted the switch would benefit the city.

“These are very exciting times which will see the creation of a first class modern library in the city while safeguarding the future of two landmark buildings,” Cllr Heath said. “The move is also being backed by Lichfield District Council and the City Centre Development Partnership because it will increase footfall, boost the heart of the city and support local traders.”

The plans will be on show between 1.30pm and 4pm at The Friary and 5pm to 7pm at St Mary’s.

Cllr Heath added: “It’s still early days but we’re now starting to create plans around the interior of the building and sorting out what goes where.”

A £250,000 fundraising campaign has also been launched by The Guild of St Mary’s to reinvigorate the first floor.
