PLANS have been submitted for the long-awaited new health centre in Burntwood.

The development has been proposed for the former youth centre site at Cherry Close.

The scheme would see the creation of a new health centre alongside sports pitches and a new care home.

A planning statement said:

> "The building would provide a modern high-quality facility to accommodate the GP services currently provided from the Salters Meadow Health Centre, and at the Darwin branch practice in Chasetown.
>
> "The services provided by Darwin Medical Practice at Greenwood Health Centre will not be relocated.
>
> ""It would provide increased capacity for the GP practices to address the current and future needs.
>
> "The new facility would also accommodate additional community health services."

The health centre is proposed for the north east of the site and would have 85 standard parking spaces and six accessible ones. Access would be via the A5190 Milestone Way.

The three football pitches at the site would be managed by Lichfield District Council and see access from Burntwood Leisure Centre.

The statement added that the planned care home would be three storeys in height.

It said:

> "Outline planning permission is also sought for a care home, with details of layout, appearance, scale and landscaping reserved for future approval.
>
> "This is proposed to be located on an area to the north west of the site.
>
> "It would comprise up to 80 beds and have 25 ambulant parking bays, two accessible bays and two designated ambulance and delivery bays."
