Plans have been submitted for a wind turbine in Burntwood.

Severn Trent Water have applied to Lichfield District Council to put up a 126.25-metre high turbine at at the Sewage Treatment Plant at Woodhouses.

Residents have already [voiced their initial objections](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2009/05/14/residents-ready-to-fight-hammerwich-wind-turbine/) to the proposal, but the company have now submitted a formal application.

A statement outlining the scheme said:

> “When considering turbine size, the sensitivity of the wider landscape should be balanced against the urgent need for renewable energy generation.
>
> “The wind turbine will typically consist of a steel tower with three carbon fibre blades. The turbine colour will be a non-reflective matt white/grey typical of wind turbines throughout the UK.”

Drawings outlining the plans for the site suggest that it could accomodate a turbine with blades measuring 92.5-metres in diameter, with a height of 126.25-metres from ground to the highest tip of the blade.

And a planning statement from Severn Trent Water suggest the turbine could help meet a large proportion of Hammerwich’s residential power needs.

The statement said:

> “The electricity generated would feed directly into the grid and is predicted to be equivalent to the annual domestic needs of between 883 and 1,188 average UK households, equivalent to between 66 per cent and 89 per cent of the households within the Hammerwich Ward.”

Residents can have their say on the proposals via [Lichfield District Council’s planning website](http://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/site/scripts/planning%5Fdetails.php?id=17563&ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).
