PLANS to demolish a property in Chorley and replace it with a new farmhouse have been rejected.

The development had been proposed for Shute Hill Farm.

But a planning notice said the scheme would not be permitted:

> "The existing farmhouse and associated agricultural buildings form a nineteenth century historic farmstead which constitutes a non-designated heritage asset and contributes to the rural character, historic landscape setting and local distinctiveness of the area.
>
> "The proposed development would result in the irreversible loss of the historic farmstead. Insufficient justification has been provided to demonstrate that demolition is necessary or that reasonable alternatives involving the retention and reuse of the buildings have been adequately considered."
