A Lichfield park has reopened after being closed as part of a £3.9million makeover.

Beacon Park’s under fives play area has been completed in time for the Easter break after being moved nearer to the pool.

The area now features new swings, sandpits, climbing rocks and a spiral trail, as well as the relocated train, springy chickens and rocking horse.

The remainder of the older children’s play area, including the mini car track and swings on a frame, is also now finished and open.

Richard King, strategic director of democratic, development and legal services at Lichfield District Council, said:

> “We’re delighted to fully open Beacon Park’s play areas in time for the Easter break, and we know lots of fun will be had here for many years to come. But, if you’re coming to the enclosed play area, don’t forget to bring your bucket and spade to play in the sand!”

The new playground was built as part of Lichfield District Council’s and Lichfield City Council’s multi-million pound project to transform key historic parks in Lichfield, which also includes the Garden of Remembrance and Minster Pool and Walk.
