# Police warn Lichfield residents after reports of roofing scam

PEOPLE in Lichfield are being warned to be on their guard against a roofing scam operating in the area.

Police say residents on Birchwood Road were visited by cold callers claiming that they were working nearby repairing storm damage and had noticed loose ridge tiles which could be fixed for £30.

But when the work was carried out, the individuals were told more damage had been discovered and would cost £900 to repair.

PCSO Andrea Horsnall, from Staffordshire Police, said:

> “Be aware of cold callers who claim to be working in the local area and have noticed something about your house.

> “Two strategies used are, firstly, to claim to have worked locally so that you think they are credible, or secondly to create an emergency that you have not noticed.  
>  
> “They may also offer to do work cheaply and therefore save you the worry and trouble of finding someone to do it.  
>  
> “People should get the raised issue checked by an independent source and get at least three quotes – it is always better to employ someone who has been recommended to you and whose work you have seen and is of the quality you expect.”
