# Polls open as candidates battle to win Chadsmead by-election

The polls have opened in the Chadsmead by-election.

Voters will be able to vote for candidates to represent them on Lichfield City Council and Lichfield District Council.

The seats became vacant [following the resignation](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2016/01/04/by-election-due-in-chadsmead-after-lichfield-district-council-member-marion-bland-resigns/) of the Liberal Democrat councillor Marion Bland due to ill-health.

The candidates standing for the district council by-election are:

- Colin Ball (Labour)
- Adam Elsdon (Greens)
- Jan Higgins (UKIP)
- Brian McMullan (Conservatives)
- Paul Ray (Lib Dem)

The four candidates contesting the vacant Lichfield City Council seat are:

- Adam Elsdon (Greens)
- Simran McMullan (Conservatives)
- Paul Ray (Lib Dem)
- Phil Sutcliffe (Labour)

Polling stations will be open until 10pm.
