# Potential operators of new cinema in Lichfield already showing “significant interest” in proposal

There has already been “significant interest” from potential operators of a new cinema in Lichfield.

A partnership between Lichfield District Council and Evolve Estates, the new owner of the Three Spires Shopping Centre, is aiming [to convert the former city centre Debenhams store into a multi-screen facility](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/deal-could-see-ex-debenhams-store-in-lichfield-converted-into-a-cinema/).

The unit has been empty since May 2021, but Lichfield Live understands work to demonstrate how a cinema could work in the building is already underway.

Sebastian MacDonald-Hall, director of Evolve Estates said there had already been a number of interested parties keen to take on both the cinema and associated food and drink outlets.

If the project becomes a reality it would be the first dedicated cinema in the city centre since The Regal on Tamworth Street shut in 1974.

Lichfield District Council said the “consideration phase” of the joint venture would be completed by the end of summer, with the aim for a planning application to be submitted afterwards.

Cllr Doug Pullen, leader of Lichfield District Council, said he was confident the scheme would progress.
