# Principal of Maple Hayes Dyslexia School in Lichfield receives national recognition

The principal of a Lichfield school has received national recognition.

Dr Neville Brown founded the Maple Hayes Dyslexia School in 1982 and has pioneered the use of a symbol system of teaching.

He was named runner-up in Sternberg Active Life Award and travelled to Downing Street to collect his certificate.

Dr Brown, who is now in his 80s and battling cancer, said: “It was an incredible day.

“We work very hard at Maple Hayes Dyslexia School to ensure children are given the best possible start in life, and so for the system I developed to be recognised by my peers was an honour.”
