LICHFIELD'S MP has praised work taking place to strengthen physics in schools across the country.

Dave Robertson visited the Subject Knowledge for Physics Teaching (SKPT) programme at Warwick University to meet teachers taking part in continuing professional development.

Funded by the Department for Education, the initiative provides free, hands-on training for teachers across the country delivering secondary physics outside their specialist subject area.

The Labour MP – who was previously a physics teacher – met course participants and learned about their experiences of the programme and how it is supporting their teaching practice.

He said:

> "Investing in teachers is one of the most effective ways to improve outcomes for young people, and programmes like this play an important role in ensuring more students can access a high-quality physics education."

Elizabeth Calvert, SKPT programme lead, said:

> "We were delighted to welcome Dave Robertson MP and highlight the impact of the programme.
>
> "By supporting teachers across England to develop their expertise, we can help more young people experience high-quality physics education and build the knowledge, skills and aspirations needed for the future."
