The decision to reduce the size of the Cabinet at Lichfield District Council has been described as “inevitable”.

Leader Mike Wilcox confirmed the move earlier this week as part of a shake-up of posts.

Now Cllr Alan White, who had previously been responsible for development services, says the change was necessary.

“I think the reduction in the number of cabinet posts is an inevitable response to the Council’s reduction in funding from central government,” he explained.

“Many authorities are doing the same thing.”

But Cllr Steve Norman, leader of the opposition Labour group at Lichfield District Council, admitted the move was surprising.

“While it is entirely a matter for the Conservative Group how they organise themselves, the absence of Cllr Margaret Stanhope and Cllr Alan White makes the Cabinet the poorer,” he added.
