A report has backed plans to convert a former nursing home in Burntwood into flats.

Residents living near the old Southwinds Nursing Home on Chase Road [have objected to the plan](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/burntwood-councillors-to-debate-plan-to-convert-former-care-home-into-flats/) due to parking worries, as well as issues with the potential for anti-social behaviour if the building becomes multiple-occupancy.

The planning committee will hear concerns next week after the application was called in by Labour’s Cllr Laura Ennis.

But a report from a council official has recommended the scheme be given the go-ahead:

> “The neighbours’ and Burntwood Town Council concerns regarding parking are noted. However, the development complies with standards as set out in the SPD.
>
> “Staffordshire County Council’s highways department has raised no objection to the parking provision.
>
> “A condition is imposed to ensure the parking provision is provided before the first occupation of the flats.”

#### “No evidence”

The report also dismissed complaints over other potential issues:

> “The concerns regarding anti-social behaviour are noted, however the scheme seeks to provide standard flats which does not necessarily result in anti-social forms of behaviour.
>
> “It is also noted that no evidence has been provided to demonstrate that a significant increase in anti-social behaviour would be caused directly.
>
> “The proposed development will deliver 10 additional smaller dwellings within the sustainable settlement of Burntwood.
>
> “The proposal is not considered to have a detrimental impact upon the amenity of neighbouring residents.”

The report will be discussed at a meeting of the planning committee on 16th December.
