# Residents have their say on projects to benefit from criminal cashback

People across Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to have their say on which community projects will get a share of assets seized from criminals.

Several groups across Staffordshire have submitted an application for a share of the £95,000 funding pot that is being made available for local schemes that demonstrate good value for money and are related in some way to tackling antisocial or criminal behaviour.

Among the projects nominated is one by The Lichfield Blog which will allow for better reporting of the outcomes of court cases. Another scheme on the list is for funding for a football course for youngsters in September at Darwin Park Community Church.

Criminal Justice and Treasury Ministers have agreed that communities should be given more control in how asset recovery money is spent locally. This commitment was set out in the Engaging Communities in Criminal Justice Green Paper (published on 29 April 2009). 

Peter Hammersley, Chair of Staffordshire Criminal Justice Board said:

> “Community Cashback offers an excellent opportunity for us to respond directly to the communities’ needs, so we really encourage people to have their say on the local projects they believe would benefit from this fund.”
