# Residents urged to vote in Police and Crime Commissioner elections

Lichfield and Burntwood residents are being urged to have their say in the Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

The new role – which is being contested by Labour’s Joy Garner and Matthew Ellis from the Conservatives – will set the agenda for how crime is tackled in the area.

Nina Dawes, Local Returning Officer for Lichfield District, said: “These elections will form an important part of how Staffordshire is policed in the future.

“It’s important that as many people as possible take part in the voting process, to give the winner a clear mandate on how local people want their area policed. It’s also an opportunity for people to elect a directly accountable and accessible official who will be able to influence how crime is dealt with in their area.”
