A review of car parks across Lichfield and Burntwood is being launched.

Cllr Ian Pritchard will lead the project to look at how Lichfield District Council’s existing facilities can continue to meet the needs of the local area.

A [draft introduction to the review](http://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/download/meetings/id/6357/item%5F9%5Fcar%5Fpark%5Fmanagement%5Fservice%5Freview?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) reveals that the review will also examine whether any savings can be made as part of the local authority’s Fit for the Future programme.

The report says: “As well as being a major income generator, an appropriate provision of car parking is important to the economy of Lichfield city, Burntwood and the wider district.

“It is important that the car parking operation provides for the parking needs of town centre businesses and visitors and also continues to ensure the important financial contribution to the district Council’s funding structure.”

The review is due to run until March 2016 and will look at issues such as capacity, the impact of future developments and possible changes to payment methods.

However, any hopes for increased sites where parking is free do not appear to be on the table.

“The report assumes that parking, where charged for, will continue to be chargeable.”

The draft report will be discussed at the council’s economic growth and development overview and scrutiny committee on Tuesday (June 16).
