# Review: Zoe Rahman @ Lichfield Cathedral’s Lady Chapel

With a powerful, fully-rounded piano style and sympathetic musicians the acclaimed Pianist and composer Zoe Rahman turned Lichfield Cathedral’s Lady Chapel into an intimate jazz club when she appeared there as part of the Lichfield Festival.

A largely full Lady Chapel was treated to music that went through the full range of jazz styles, from funk, and rock, and more gentle styles.

Powered along by the creative drummer Gene Calderazzo and, with assistance from flautist and alto flautist Rowland Sutherland, she also explored her personal heritage, with many of the pieces and moods having a traditional Irish sound, while more exotic modes and moods were used during some of the pieces to show her Bengali influence as well.

Although the full band numbers were good, and full of drama, colour, and musical flourishes, the highlights of the set were the duet of Flute and Piano, and a Piano solo which allowed the full acoustic beauty of the Cathedral to be shown.
