Plans for a wind turbine in Lichfield have been refused.

A revised proposal for a 74m high structure had been put forward for land at Curborough Sewage Treatment Works on Watery Lane.

Severn Trent Water had hoped Lichfield District Council planning chiefs would give the scheme the thumbs-up following an earlier refusal for a 126.5m high turbine.

In the latest application, the company had suggested English Heritage believed the turbine would have a “minimal effect” and would not compromise the historic views of Lichfield Cathedral.

But planning chiefs have rejected the revised scheme.

The refusal notice said: “The proposed turbine, due to its location and scale, would result in an unacceptable visual intrusion in the local landscape, thereby harming the character and appearance of this part of the countryside and it is not considered that this harm would be outweighed by the contribution made by the turbine to sustainable energy generation.”
