A RUTHLESS display with the ball saw Hammerwich get the better of Tamworth 2nds on the road.

The hosts opted to bat first, but might have been regretting their choice as the visitors made immediate inroads with Jack Brady (5) being caught by Andy Malkin off the bowling of Ryan Elliot in the second over.

He was soon followed by Jamie Selvanayagam who became Elliott's second victim after scoring just one to leave Tamworth on 2-16.

Elliot added a third wicket when he bowled Kieran Wordsworth – and when Haider Pervaiz skittled James Tomson and trapped James Mander lbw, the hosts were reduced to 36-5.

Zachary Oldham, Myles Botfield and George Thacker made quick returns to the pavilion as the Hammers kept the pressure on.

Joe Seager's 28 and a knock of 25 from Jack Smith offered some resistance, but Tamworth's innings came to an end on 114.

Pervaiz, Elliot and Hasnain Nawaz each collected three wickets, while Scott Elstone picked up the other.

Hammerwich made a solid start in reply, reaching 39 before Ben Novis was bowled by Tom Kinson after scoring 11.

Callum Brodrick added 22 before he was caught. Elstone made seven before being skittled by Myles Botfield.

But a knock of nine from Tom Wright and an unbeaten 62 from Imran Qadir saw the Hammers past the total for the loss of just three wickets.
