# Sausage and mash lunch helps Burntwood woman mark 100th birthday

A Burntwood woman has been celebrating her 100th birthday with a sausage and mash lunch!

Elsie Roe, a resident at Bupa’s Hammerwich Hall Residential and Nursing Home in Hammerwich, celebrating the big day on Saturday (February 20th).

The home marked the occasion with a special lunch with her daughters which included Elsie’s favourite food – sausage and mash, followed by Apple Pie and Custard. Another buffet was held later in the day for the family and friends followed by the presentation of a birthday cake.

Charles Turner, home manager at Hammerwich Hall Residential and Nursing Home, said:

> “We are delighted to share this special occasion with Elsie. She was really looking forward to reaching the 100 landmark and it was a really special day for her to spend with her daughters.”

Elsie was born in 1910 in Walsall Wood. She married her husband Charles in 1933 and together they went on to have two daughters, Glenda and Janice. Elsie now has four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her career was spent as a glove maker and school kitchen assistant.

She was also involved with the Girl Guides, was a keen gardener and enjoyed dancing. She still loves to read regularly.
