Manager Paul Holt got the response he demanded as his Lichfield City FC side returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win against Pershore Town.

The Brownsfield Park boss decided to ring the changes after a dismal display against Nuneaton Griff and the shake-up had the desired impact as they bagged a deserved three points.

There were seven differences to the Lichfield line-up as they also looked to avenge a cup defeat against Pershore three weeks ago. New signings Danny Rock and Samson Adalade were among the 11 who started the game brightly.

Ashley Evans had the first chance to open the scoring but couldn’t quite lift the ball over the advancing Matt Oliver in the Pershore goal.

The home side continued to press and the lively front pair of Kyle Minto and Adalade were causing all sorts of problems with their pace and power.

A Rock through ball saw Minto shrug off the attentions of Craig Selby to head the ball over the advancing Oliver only to be crudely taken out. But justice was done as Liam Holt fired home the resulting penalty on 28 minutes.

Minto should have doubled City’s lead five minutes later when he burst through, but was denied by the legs of Oliver.

After dominating the first 30 minutes, Lichfield appeared to take their foot off the pedal and gradually the visitors started to find their way into the game.

A cheap free-kick was partially cleared by City, but the ball fell to striker Mark Owen on the edge of the box and he rifled a half-volley past Craig Johnston to level the scores going into half time.

Pershore, with their tails up, created the first opportunity of the second period when a run and shot by Matt Tyler forced a great save out of Johnston at the near post.

City eventually found their feet and started dominating proceedings again, Josh Leaver somehow firing wide with the goal at his mercy.

But Lichfield did retake the lead on the hour when Holt doubled his tally after ghosting in at the back post to head home an Evans free kick.

The midfield man almost grabbed his hat-trick when first a fierce shot hit Minto on the line who couldn’t get out of the way, and then also having a header cleared off the line by Pershore’s Kevin Ingram.

Alalade almost grabbed a debut goal, Oliver again saving smartly to deny the on loan Walsall Wood man.

City will be hoping to make it two wins on the bounce when they take on Pelsall Villa in a derby clash on Tuesday (October 29).
