# Skipper delighted as Lichfield RUFC finally return to action

Lichfield RUFC captain Dave Bassett has admitted he was delighted to finally get 2010 underway.

Like many sports teams up and down the country, the Myrtle Greens have been hit hard by the recent cold snap, but finally got back to action with a resounding [53-0 win over Stourbridge Lions](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2010/01/19/lichfield-rufc-53-stourbridge-lions-0/).

And the Lichfield skipper was happy with his side’s all-round performance. He said:

> “It’s an excellent start to 2010 for us. Particularly pleasing was the defence which meant Stourbridge were unable to trouble the scoreboard. This was very much a team performance built on another strong display from the pack with special mention going to Steve Gabbitass who was everywhere around the park.

> “But we must ensure we do not relax now and maintain this level of performance continuing with Willenhall away this weekend.”

Just getting the Stourbridge game on was an effort, but thanks to the help of a number of supporters the game did manage to go ahead.

Bassett added:

> “I have to mention all the volunteers who came down to work on the pitch, the fact that there were only two games played in our league shows how hard they worked to make sure our fixture issues didn’t get worse.”
