A social club in Whittington could be converted into a residential property.

Plans have been draw up for the Whittington Heath Social Club and Institute on Fisherwick Road to transformed into a three bedroom house.

The building had been an agricultural construct before what the developers describe as an “unsympathetic” conversion.

They say the current scheme will bring the building more into line with a village setting.

“Essentially this involves respecting the main fabric of the building and limiting the creation of new openings to ensure that the building retains its pedigree as an agricultural building lying at the heart of a rural settlement,” the developers said in a statement supporting the application.

The loss of a business site will not have a major impact on the local community either, the developers claimed.

“The loss of a drinking establishment is a trend in all rural areas,” they said. “However, in Whittington there remain adequate facilities of a similar nature, therefore the conversion to residential use is acceptable.”
