Staffordshire has joined forces with neighbouring councils to help residents find out when the gritters are out across the whole of the Midlands region.

Staffordshire County Council will continue with their countywide gritting updates via their Twitter account at [@StaffordshireCC](http://www.twitter.com/staffordshirecc?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) using #staffstwitgrit, but the local authority has now joined forces with colleagues in Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell, Birmingham, Shropshire, Wolverhampton, Solihull and the Highways Agency to bring together the gritting alerts and related news from across the region.

The aim is to make it easier for people travelling across the region. The combined alerts – using the Twitter hashtag #wmgrit – can be found at [www.staffordshire.gov.uk/winter](http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/winter?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).

County Councillor Mike Maryon, cabinet member for highways and transport said: “Twitter is a great tool to get winter weather information out to people who are on the go.

“We’re building on the tremendous success of #staffstwitgrit last year, and working with our West Midlands neighbours and the Highways Agency to keep people informed about winter weather and our roads.

“If you’re on Twitter, you can follow @StaffordshireCC and look out for #staffstwitgrit for updates just in Staffordshire. For regional updates, use the #wmgrit hashtag to find out when gritters are on the road in neighbouring regions such as Shropshire and Wolverhampton.”
