PEOPLE are being urged to have their say over plans which could see new solutions for electric vehicle owners to charge at home where they do not have off-street parking.

Staffordshire County Council has a survey running until 9th August which could lead to the use of EV gullies. The small channels are placed in pavements to carry the cables without creating a trip hazard.

The consultation is designed to help the authority understand where there is demand and how much people would be willing to contribute towards the cost of the infrastructure.

Some of the roll-out might be supported via Staffordshire County Council’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund secured from the Government, which is designed to improve charging options for households without off-street parking.

Cllr Andrew Mynors, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Connectivity, said:

> "While there is growing electric vehicle ownership nationally, we understand that many residents do not have off-street parking.
>
> "The solution being proposed could deliver affordable charging options, utilising funding already secured by the county council and at no extra cost to us.
>
> "We’re urging people to complete our survey – which is now open until 9th August – so that we can get this right for residents.
>
> "We have reviewed how we can help provide charging infrastructure in a way that benefits the people who need it most whilst keeping disruption to communities at a minimum during installation.
>
> "As a county council we want to ease cost-of-living pressures and ensure people have the best transport option available to them for employment, leisure or independent living."
