# Talks underway in a bid to keep work clubs open in Lichfield and Burntwood

Discussions are underway in a bid to keep work clubs across Lichfield and Burntwood open.

The five meetings have been running since 2011, but had faced an uncertain future in the wake of cuts brought on by Lichfield District Council’s [Fit for the Future review](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2013/06/18/lichfield-and-burntwood-to-feel-the-full-force-of-1-7million-cuts-plan/).

However, they were secured until this month (March 2014) after a contract was signed with [Support Staffordshire](http://www.supportstaffordshire.org.uk/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) in November.

[A report](http://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/download/meetings/id/5937/item%5F5%5Fwork%5Fclubs?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) to a meeting of the community, housing and health scrutiny meeting on Monday (March 24) says: “An extension to this agreement is being actively pursued to enable the support to continue until the end of September 2014 whilst future options for delivery are explored.”

The current agreement sees fortnightly drop-in sessions at Lichfield, Burntwood, Handsacre, Fazeley and Mile Oak.

The work clubs allow people to access advice on interview techniques, CV writing and money writing, as well as skills in literacy, maths and basic computing.

Since March 2011, 599 people have signed up for the work clubs, with 115 helped back into work, 36 taking on voluntary posts and 184 receiving training. However, the council report admits not all outcomes are known.
